Was born in 1931 in village Krasnaya Zaria (Red dawning) of Oryol oblast.
In 1951 he passed Oryol art school.
Since 1958 he is member of the Union of Artists of the USSR.
Has died in 2002 in Podolsk.
After his participation in the All-Union art exhibition 1957 Veniamin Safonov's was awarded by permit to centre of painting et Ilya Repin's Academic dacha. This greatly influenced his oeuvre. Since then the landscape becomes his favorite genre. The bright palette, arabesque combinations of colors making his pictures expressive and recognizable are peculiar to his touch. "Academic dacha" became favorite place for his plein airs. Works of this artist are characterized by coloristic diversity, long pastose brushstroke, rhythm and emotionality.
Veniamin Safonov wrote landscapes, not copying or imitating the nature, but creating its image. The canvas at that time was luxury, therefore the artist often used a cardboard. His landscapes remind bouquets from showy flowers. Decorative effect and an expression of its works link him with the Vladimir artists working in the same style. The heritage of the artist includes over two thousand works, and studying of its oeuvre still ahead.
